IN THE HEART OF PARIS
Hidden in the heart of the historical Paris, the Hotel de la Motte-Picquet is located between the Invalides, ordered by Louis XIV where are resting the ashes of Napoleon Bonaparte and the Ecole Militaire created by Louis XV.
The seventh district (“arrondissement”) of Paris is still an historical and political center with the Hotel Matignon of the Prime Minister, the Palais Bourbon of the Assemblée Nationale, eight ministries and the head office of the UNESCO.

Both the Hotel de la Motte-Picquet and the avenue de la Motte-Picquet owe Toussaint-Guillaume Picquet, comte de la Motte, dit La Motte Picquet, their name. He was a french sailor who joined battle with the Americans during the American War of Independence.

The fame of this district of Paris also comes from its extraordinary cultural life. Many artists where living here: the surrealist painter Max Ernst, writers such as André Gide, Albert Camus, René Char...
Art lovers will be satisfied to be surrounded by monuments and museums: the Invalides Military Museum, the Louvre, the Orsay Museum, the Quai Branly Museum for the Tribal Arts, the Rodin Museum, the amazing House of Glass designed by the architect Pierre Chareau , the wonderful Champs de Mars and of course the unique Eiffel Tower.

Our charming neighbourhood is called “the Big Pebble” (“le Gros Caillou”) because of the stone that used to separate Saint-Germain-des-Prés and Sainte-Genevieve until the 18th century.

If you wander, you will discover the true spirit of Paris, uncatchable by most of the tour operators travellers: an extraordinary combination of popular tradition and modern elegance.

The Hotel de la Motte-Picquet is located on the corner of the most picturesque street of Paris, the rue Cler. What a delight to seat in a café and have a hot chocolate and a croissant, to admire all the colours of the rainbow on the market stalls full of fruits, vegetables, breads, cheeses, pastries and exquisite typical country products !
From the Hotel de la Motte-Picquet, you can walk west to reach the beautiful French style garden of the Champs de Mars. At night, you will be seized by the sight of the illuminated Eiffel Tower. Maybe, you will choose to walk east and to rest on a bench on the Invalides plaza where the typical game of “boules” (“pétanque”) is played.
If you like fashion and Haute-Couture, be sure to admire the lushest stores of the avenue Montaigne, the faubourg Saint-Honoré and the Champs-Elysées on the other bank of the Seine.

By the Seine, it is a pleasure to stroll, eat a “viennoiserie” or a “crêpe” and come aboard a “bateau-mouche” for a one hour cruise you will never forget.

Many Americans who live in Paris have choosen our district so typical, so don’t be surprised to find here the American Church, the American Library and the American University!

In the center of Paris, the district of the Hotel de la Motte-Picquet is ideal : in a few minutes by metro, reach the Louvre, the Marais, the Jardin des Tuileries, the Grand Palais and the Petit Palais, Montmartre, the Sacré-Cœur, the cathédrale of Notre-Dame, Montparnasse, the Quartier Latin and the Père Lachaise Cemetery. By train or shuttle if you prefer, you can easily go to the Château de Versailles in less than 30 minutes. In the same way, it is simple to visit the family park of Disneyland.
If you have time, don’t forget to see two mythic sites of the painting of the 19th century: Auvers-sur-Oise, the impressionist artist residency (Vincent Van Gogh of course but also Paul Cézanne, Camille Pissaro and Armand Guillaumin) and Giverny, jewel of Claude Monet where you can contemplate his masterpieces, his Japanese garden and the paintings of the American Art Museum that became the Impressionist Museum in 2009.

We wait for you at the Hotel de la Motte-Picquet where the comfort and the kindness of the staff make you feel like home whereas the typically Parisian atmosphere reminds you that you are far away.
