Soak Up the Sun or Play a Game on a Paris Beach This Summer

Paris Plages is a popular summer event that has Parisians flocking to the banks of the Seine every July and August. Having begun this weekend, Paris Plages will continue until August 17, 2014 with a variety of activities and entertainment for adults and children alike. First and foremost, the event gives visitors a chance to see the banks of the Seine covered in sand.

Five thousand metric tons of the stuff are brought in to create a beach-like environment in the center of Paris. So bring your beach chairs and towels in order to soak up some sun by the famous Parisian river. In addition to lounging, visitors can also take advantage of the many activities organized for Paris Plages, which in English means 'Paris Beaches.'

From beach volleyball, beach tennis, beach rugby and Foosball to dance lessons, tai chi and petanque, there are games and activities for everyone to enjoy around the banks of the Seine and the Hôtel de Ville (in the 4th arrondissement of Paris). Along the banks there will also be drinks stands and ice cream stands, as well as a picnic space, to ensure that beach-goers can quench their thirst and satisfy their hunger.

At the Bassin de la Villette, a large nautical base harbors electric boats, pedal boats, canoes, kayaks, sailboats, barques and water rollers. This means that fans of boating and water activities can fill their day with splashy fun. For even more thrills, there is a zip line that connects the two banks of the Bassin.

As a result, guests staying at the Hotel de la Motte Picquet can enjoy a day at the beach right in the middle of Paris during their summer stay. Visitors can find more information about Paris Plages on the official website. The beaches are open every day from 9:00 a.m. until midnight.
