Vermeer and the Masters of Genre Painting

Until May 22, 2017, a selection of the celebrated 17th-century Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer’s paintings is on exhibition at the world’s most renowned and prestigious museum, the Louvre.

Featuring 12 of Vermeer’s masterpieces including The Milkmaid (c.1657–58), Woman with a Lute (c.1662-63), Woman Holding a Balance (c.1662–63), and The Lacemaker (c.1669–70), the exhibition, which is entitled “Vermeer and the Masters of Genre Painting” also displays more than 70 fine paintings created by some of the painter’s contemporaries including Gerrit Dou, Gerard ter Borch, Jan Steen, Gabriel Metsu, and Pieter de Hooch.
